Proofreading is the reviewing and careful correcting of typography, grammar, spelling and punctuation in a client’s document, whereas editing improves the overall quality and readability of a document.

Proofreading makes a document read more clearly and gets to the crux of the message for the recipient of the document.

A tertiary degree is not always a requirement, but a good command of the English language is, as well as the ability to recognise bad grammar and how to correct spelling and punctuation errors.

You will need to be thorough, pay attention to detail, have good communication and written skills, use your own initiative, be determined and persistent, flexible and open to change.

It is not always easy to motivate yourself when you work on your own but you have to be aware of deadlines, stay focused and produce consistent quality work.

‘Being organised ‘needs to be your daily mantra for success to be yours.
