Jewellery designers use many different materials in their designs such as metals, precious gemstones, woods, plastics and fibres to design and make necklaces, bracelets, rings and other jewellery pieces, as well as using specialised techniques like enameling and engraving.

Designers may use mass production techniques or produce unique pieces for private clients.

Computer-aided design (CAD) can be used to visualise the design process and to assist in designing a piece.

This craft can learned at a trade school or technical college or by on-the-job training.
