Soil Disturbance
IN THIS LESSON
Soil loss due to action of water.
This type of erosion can take place when raindrops strike bare soil, or through flooding.
Sheet erosion usually happens first. In this type of erosion, water removes the soil in thin layers from sloping land, particularly when the soil is loose.
Rill erosion refers to soil being removed from the surface by small streams that run through land with poor surface drainage. Rills are usually found between crop rows.
Gully erosion is an advanced stage of rill erosion in which larger streams remove large amounts of topsoil, forming gullies.
