Soil Fertility
IN THIS LESSON
There are two ways to describe soil fertility.
Soil fertility describes how well the soil can provide plants with enough nutrients and moisture to produce crops. There are two ways to define it.
Natural soil fertility – this refers to the amount of nutrients and moisture present in soils in their natural state.
Actual soil fertility – this refers to the nutrients and moisture in the soil as well as any nutrients and moisture added by the farmer.
Soil fertility can be enhanced by, for example, adding manure or compost to the soil.
