IN THIS LESSON
What makes agro ecology a viable alternative?
Industrial agriculture has failed to deliver on its promise to feed the world. Its reliance on the extensive use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides has many negative impacts on the environment, and on human health. Many farmers all over the world now embrace agro ecology as the way forward for agriculture since the chemicals used in industrial agriculture may harm the person using them, disturb the health of the soil, pollute the water, soil and air, and cause the loss of beneficial insects such as bees.
The intention of this course is to provide emerging farmers and anyone else who may be interested in agro ecology with information about soil, soil fertility, and soil conservation practices. We encourage readers to share their experience and knowledge with others so that we can all learn from one another.
