IN THIS LESSON
Let your body MOVE.
And while you move, you’re moving up!
Exercise
Studies confirm, again and again, that exercise is good for you.
It keeps your immune system strong, improves mood, and boosts mental ability.
A lack of exercise can cause irritability, bad mood, susceptibility to illness and general lack of drive.
This doesn’t mean you need to train as much as Castor Semenya — 30 minutes of cardio 3 or 4 times a week should be enough to keep your body satisfied and your mind sharp.
What does exercise have to do with getting a job?
As we know from the previous section, exercise has a direct effect on your ability to think.
Together with adequate rest, exercise “trains” your mind to be alert when necessary, to concentrate, and to stay focussed.
Start a Routine
This isn’t as hard as it sounds.
Start with something easy to commit to.
For most people, an intense 30-minute workout 3 or 4 times a week is sufficient.
You want to keep your body and mind on point, to keep you in the job seeking game.
Exercising will also help you stay positive, as it boosts endorphins.
Keep moving, and your goal will get nearer each day.
Is Exercise a Cost?
No, it needn’t be.
Gym isn’t the only place you can work out.
You can, for instance, skip with a skipping rope at home. That’s an excellent workout.
So is going for a 30-minute jog — remember to drink a glass of water after!
Anything that makes you sweat and gets your heart rate going is good — whether it’s doing star-jumps while listening to your favourite playlist, or going for a run.
Get That Body Moving!
The benefits of exercise are huge.
It’s not just about getting that beach body ready.
In fact, if that’s the only reason you’re exercising, you’re only getting half the story.
Exercise improves brain function.
When you exercise, your brain gets more oxygen, and can therefore work better.
Exercise also improves mood. When you exercise, your body releases ENDORPHINS, and these endorphins make you happy!
Some people think that they can’t exercise because they can’t afford the gym.
False!
You can run, you can climb, you can swim, you can dance!
Peeps: if you’re breaking a sweat, you’re good!
Let your body MOVE. And while you move, you’re moving up!
